Math and practical problems in schools in Tanzania and Norway

 

Dette notatet har jeg laget til de tre matematikklærerne. Vi hadde interessante samtaler. Det kan være av interesse for noen, særlig matematikklærere eller andre som har matematikkunnskaper, men kap 1 kan ha mer generell interesse. Bl.a. fordi mange av dem som besøker bloggen gjør det fra andre land enn Norge, har jeg valgt å publisere dette engelskspråklige notatet på bloggen.

1. Introduction

When visiting Bethel Home and School in Himo, Tanzania January/February 2015 I had discussions with math teachers Joseph, Martin and Jumanne. We agreed that I should write a memo giving them more examples where the pupils must use math to answer practical problems from real life. Most of the examples in the memo have connection with the surroundings, especially at the Bethel home.
